Don’t be alarmed BabyKV does not have Swine Flu but she does have a stomach virus. How did we find this out …well that’s the topic of today’s post.
***Disclaimer: Baby puke and poop is all over this article turn back now if you don’t enjoy reading about such things.***
Yesterday afternoon was like any normal afternoon. MamaKV and BabyKV came home from work and I got to feed BabyKV applesauce and oatmeal. She ate it like it was going out of style.
After BabyKV at MamaKV and I got to sit down and eat our dinner. We cleaned up and MamaKV went to watch a few minutes of TV and relax while BabyKV and I took a walk around the neighborhood and played with toys in her room.
MamaKV wanted to get some desert from the local bakery so we packed our car and headed out. Desert was good and BabyKV was content sitting on my lap the entire time. We did notice she was coughing a little, more like hacking though, but only occasionally. We thought nothing of it though because sometime she does this just for attention.

Unless you have been living under a rock or do not have a radio or TV in your house you have probably heard about the Swine Flu. The swine flu is a strain of the common flu virus that is most commonly found in swine(pigs) but has mutated to be susceptible to humans. The most recent outbreak is suspected to have originated in Mexico and is slowly spreading across the world.

At first mention of swine flu I wasn’t concerned because the typical “It can never happen to me” ideology went through my head. As the days passed and more and more stories of possible infections arose I became more and more worried of the “impending doom”. So much so that I had found myself worrying about everyone and everything around me. Is this person sick? Is this door handle infected? Is this restaurant properly vented and sanitary? Is that guy that shook my hand washing his hands enough? Was this stranger next to me recently in Mexico?

Today’s Tech Tip Tuesday is all about protecting your computer. This week its not protecting it physically but rather protecting it from viruses and other nasty things that can be found on the internet.
There are three basic types of programs that you will want to buy/find/download to your computer that will help you protect yourself.
- Virus Protection
- Sypware Protection
- Personal Firewall
Although there are many different products available for each category I will be suggesting the ones that I use and have helped me a number of times stop the “internet evil doers”

We had quite a scare this weekend. BabyKV, MamaKV and I decided we were going to go out and about Sunday afternoon to find some decorations for the new house. So we packed up BabyKV and packed the car with the diaper bag, stroller, car seat, microwave, sofa, small village ….. no wait no microwave, and headed out to the local craft store.
Once we get to the craft store we set everything up and 10 minutes later finally heading into the store. BabyKV is happy as can be sucking on “Bunnys” plastic feet. Bunny was adopted by our family when the neighbors down the street gave us a bag of toys and clothes that their daughter no longer played with. Since getting Bunny BabyKV and him have become the best of friends. They spend hours together just chatting and keeping each other company. Today was no exception.
MamaKV and I looked at some of the house decorations as we pushed BabyKV and Bunny around through the store, but there was not much here that fit our style. So after about 10 minutes in the store we decided that there is nothing here for us and we are heading to the MOTHERLAND of house things, TARGET.

Is it just me or is time speeding up? Seems as though just yesterday I was in the hospital holding a new baby and was CLUELESS on how my life was about to change. Now I have a 6 month old at home who, for the first time yesterday started to ‘”inch worm/crawl” across the floor. It was as great moment in life. I think it was truly the first time I was proud of my daughters accomplishments. I mean not that I wasn’t excited about her holding her head up, or eating “real” food, or all the other little things she has learned, but this was a major step. This was really her first real progression to being independent, the fact that she is mobile.

Today is Earth Day. Today please take the opportunity to think about how you can make the planet a better place. I am not one of those tree hugging people that goes off the deep end when you cut down trees or remove bushes from your yard, but I do make and effort to make a difference. Even little things like re-using grocery bags for lunch bags, or buying paper products instead of plastic, or better yet using dishes instead of disposables. Even small things like turning out lights or using less water will make a difference. What if everyone in the world turned off the water while they brushed? Think about how many millions of gallons of water would be conserved in just one day.

I will apologize today for such a short post (and late) but I have been busy with moving as seen (here). But I wanted to be sure to give the Tech Tip of the week so you can show off to all your friends about how much tech knowledge you have.
There are many terms and words used in the Audio Visual World that were not around even 5-10 years ago. For those of you who may be a little behind the times I will list a few of the most popular and describe them in a short but meaningful sentence.

As some of you have probably noticed I was MIA for the last few days. No I was not sick, lost, or being lazy in fact just the opposite. I moved.
My wife and I recently bought a house and Tuesday was moving day. Wednesday was unpacking day. Thursday was unpacking day. Friday was take wall paper off day. Saturday was paint day. Sunday was finishing cleaning and birthday party day (mother-in-law).
Since I have a nice cushy state job and get a RIDICULOUS amount of time off I took the entire week. Well the good times are over and I am now back at work. Yuck.
I wanted to take this blog post today and list a few facts about moving.

So I asked my wife to think of a tech question that she did not know the answer to. I was hoping for one that was easy for me to answer and one that I already knew. That was not the case.
She asks: How do atomic clocks always know the right time?
Answer: Depends.
There are two types of atomic clocks, those that you buy at a store like Radio Shack, and those that the National Institute of Standards and Technology runs. The ones we (the consumers) buy in stores actually take the time from the NIST’s atomic clock via radio signal and are nothing but radio receivers which display the NIST time. These types of clocks are more accurately descried as atomic radio clocks. The atomic clocks operated by NIST are actually keeping time using scientific methods of measurement.
How does an atomic clock keep time?
Instead of using a swinging pendulum or the oscillating frequencies of AC electric like most analog and digital clocks, respectfully, atomic clocks use the oscillating frequency of atoms. If you want a more in-depth explanation you can check out HowStuffWorks for more details.
How does the atomic clock you bought at Radio Shack know the correct time?
Each atomic clock has a small radio receiver in it. It receives information about the date, time, and time zone at set increments of time. Typically this increment will be once a day, late at night. The clock then translates this information and adjusts the clock accordingly. Most atomic radio clocks use standard quartz crystal time keeping methods between updates. Since these clocks can be sold in anytime zone, the user must always set which time zone they are located in, in order for the clock to translate the information correctly. There are a number of locations that the time signal is sent from but for most of North America the signal is being sent from WWVB in Colorado. (The yellow links is info over load about WWVB)
Now that my wife knows its not magical I wonder if she will still think its so cool?

Not much today since I am very busy with moving/packing/planning for the new house.
Today is the final day/night in the old house. We have been packing like crazy people and have 95% of our stuff boxed and ready to go.
Although this house was small and there were many little things about it that were annoying, it was our first house together and with that some good memories.
It was the house we came back from our honeymoon to and started our life as a couple in. It was the house that we slowly added pictures on the walls, and knick-knacks on the shelves to make it our own. It was the house where we brought BabyKV back to after she was born. It was the house where we painted the walls pink and put flower decals on the walls for BabyKV new nursery (which really was just a hall way). It was the house where we had our first argument as a married couple and the house where we had our first memories as a married couple.
Its sad to move from this house but the new house is bigger, newer, and will fit our family for years to come.
Now if I can just get past the fact that I have about 1.3 trillion boxes to move.
If you missed the last Fatherhood Friday post please check it out. Happy Birthday Pa.
